Incremental Growth
By Alyssa Fenix
Artist Statement:
As a Neurodivergent parent of a neurodivergent kids, I am in constant reflection and aw of the forms of growth that happens in all facets of my life. The more that I watch my own children create and recognize growth in the world around them, I feel confident, that despite my insecurities of the quality of my parenting, the power of nurturing one another, safely lies in their hands.
This piece features parts of photos I have taken of my children, my plants, and even an image of myself doing that which fills my cup, which is creating (especially with power tools), as well as a featured quote by Demetri Martin. This piece portrays the power in incremental growth and nurturance, featuring my son’s hands cradling a planter that holds my other son and his friends admiring an un furling fern. Below, I model filling my own cup while building the bridge between their discovery and the growth that surrounds them.
