Teen Transitional Skills Group
High school can be a tough environment for many older teens with Asperger’s and ADHD. In addition to a sense of social isolation, their struggles with sensory and emotional regulation can lead to overwhelm, exhaustion and a feeling of hopelessness. Senior year can bring on concerns about their ability to function in the next step of their lives.
The Teen Group
The teen group provides the support, guidance and information needed to make this transition to young adulthood more manageable. Meeting weekly by either zoom or in person, the group gives the teens a forum for speaking honestly about their concerns and feeling validated for their struggles. Strategies for emotional self-regulation, executive functioning, communications, identity and planning for the post-secondary period are woven throughout the group discussions.
Group Facilitators
Two highly experienced staff facilitate the group. Mary Jo Puglisi, LCPC, spent 30 years in the Diocese school system as an educator, clinician and administrator.
Alysa Fenix has many years of experience as a transition coordinator for neurodivergent students in the public and private school settings. The wealth of knowledge and warm, engaging styles create a productive atmosphere for the teens’ growth and personal exploration.
